Most of BWR plants in the US have been operated with hydrogen injection (HWC) and Online NobleChemTM (OLNC) as a countermeasure against stress corrosion cracking. Recently, reports of flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) of carbon steel (CS) piping in clean-up water system (CUW) are increasing. Since studies on the effects of noble metal on CS corrosion are limited, the effects of platinum deposition on CS caused by OLNC on the FAC of the CS and effectiveness of oxygen injection for the FAC mitigation were investigated under simulated CUW conditions. It was found that the FAC mitigation effect of oxygen injection on platinum-deposited CS was limited to the water quality condition with excess dissolved oxygen to dissolved hydrogen.
