When performing a trial running of Emergency Diesel Generator, the lubricant leak has been detected from shaft seal. Acccording to the disassembly and inspection of the shaft seal, breakage of o-ring which seals to protect the external leakage of lubricant has been detected. This o-ring is cut at one point then attached to the shaft, and finally glue back together by adhesive. The fracture surface was at the bonded face, so the o-ring breakage is coincident with improper installation or degradation of adhesive. Accordingly, we performed the tensile testing and acceleration aging test. As a result, it is suggested that the breakage of o-ring bonded surface is affected mainly by the installation.
