[1M07] Development towards implementation and domestic deployment of economical SMR BWRX-300
(1) Overview of BWRX-300 and main development items
Keywords:BWRX-300, SMR, Innovative concept, Simplification, Cost-competitive
The BWRX-300 is a small modular reactor (SMR) that realizes "innovation drives simplification" and is being developed jointly by Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy and its U.S. sister company GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. BWRX-300 introduces the innovative concept of integral isolation valves that isolation valves are directly attached to the reactor pressure vessel. This configuration mitigates the risk of loss of coolant accident (LOCA) which is one of the major postulated accidents at nuclear power plant, and thus it allows simplification of systems, structures and components for LOCA mitigation. As a result, the SMR can achieve both world-class safety and cost-competitiveness, and the movement toward the introduction of the BWRX-300 is currently progressing around the world. This presentation introduces the overview of the BWRX-300 and the main development items for social deployment.
