[1M10] A Study for applicability of SMR for Japanese Nuclear Site
Keywords:Small Modular Reactor, Small Reactor, domestic applicability
Aiming to achieve Carbon Neutrality, many types of small reactors which enable capital cost reduction and safety enhancement are under development globally. Though in our country in the past, large type reactors were intended due to scale merit, in this study, the applicability of small reactors for requirements of nuclear energy have been investigated. Specifically, engineers of Tohoku Electric Power Company and Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy discussed in a workshop style considering unique conditions for Tohoku area and identified expectations as well as requirements of stakeholders for future nuclear. For identified requirements, applicable points (Fit) and non-applicable points (Gap) for BWRX-300 were investigated as an example of small reactors. In this study, a co-creation methodology for creating new businesses and services with partners,”NEXPERIENCE” developed by Hitachi, Ltd., was applied.
