[2B15] Cs encapsulation by calcined copper ferrocyanide solidified with cement and geopolymer
Keywords:Copper ferrocyanide, geopolymer, cement, cesium, leaching experiment
Radioactive Cs in fly ash, originating from the combustion of wastes collected by decontamination work at Fukushima, must be stabilized by solidification. Radioactive Cs exists as a soluble salt that is expected to be dissolved and adsorbed on an adsorbent to further volume reduction of final radioactive wastes. In this study, solidified forms of calcined copper ferrocyanide loaded with stable Cs isotope by cement and geopolymer were prepared following one of the volume reduction scenarios. Cs leaching behavior was evaluated following the ANSI/ANS-16.1 test specified by the American Nuclear Society. In addition, the state of Cs encapsulation in solidified bodies were examined by the mineral phases characterization and cross sectional observations.
