Keywords:Fusion reactor, Liquid metal blanket, FeCrAl alloy, α-Al2O3 layer, MHD pressure drop

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) pressure drop is one of the important issues in liquid lithium lead (LiPb) blanket of magnetic confinement fusion reactors. Our previous study indicated that α-Al2O3 layer formed on FeCrAl alloys by the pre-oxidation treatment in air above 1273 K can function as an electrical insulating layer to reduce MHD pressure drop significantly. The abnormal growth of Fe and Cr rich oxides was locally recognized in α-Al2O3 layer formed on the inner surface of APMT (Fe-22Cr-5Al-3Mo) tubes fabricated by a wire electrical discharge machining. The abnormal oxides were metallurgically analyzed by scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM). The effect of abnormal oxides on the insulating performance was modelled, and the method to eliminate the formation of abnormal oxides was discussed.
