[2K03] Development an IVR System with Honeycomb Cooling Technology that combines CHF Improvement and Rapid Cooling of High-Temperature Bodies
(2)Quench performance of the developed Honeycomb Porous Plate
Keywords:Quenching, Honeycomb porous plate, Film boiling
In-vessel retention (IVR) is a countermeasure in the event of a severe accident accompanied by a nuclear fuel meltdown. In this situation, IVR, which involves external cooling of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) to remove the decay heat from the melting core, is employed in order to ensure the confinement of the molten fuel in the RPV. Our proposed honeycomb porous technique significantly improves critical heat flux in the IVR. In this investigation, the quenching of a stainless-steel rod with a honeycomb porous plate (HPP), attached to its lower surface is studied in distilled water under saturated conditions at atmospheric pressure. Multiple HPPs with different characteristics are investigated to determine the HPP with the best performance on CHF enhancement and rapid cooling.
