Toshiba Energy Systems has been developing a high-temperature gas reactor (HTGR) with heat storage since 2019, and is developing reactor core analysis methods for HTGR in order to improve the reactor core and design control rods. In generating multigroup nuclear constants for HTGR, it is necessary to consider double heterogeneity due to coated particle fuel. Various approximations have been made using deterministic methods to deal with double inhomogeneity. On the other hand, the continuous energy Monte Carlo technique is characterized in that it can handle complex geometric systems without approximating them. We have developed a method for generating multigroup nuclear constants for light water reactors using the continuous energy Monte Carlo code MCNP. This method uses the proprietary WFR (Weight to Flux Ratio) method to evaluate the scattering matrix. In this presentation, we apply this method to generate multigroup nuclear constants for HTGR, and report the results of core analysis using a fuel column model.
