In the 1960s, under the regulatory conditions at that time, fluoride liquid fuel molten salt reactors, realized as test reactors on the SMR scale, are now being reactivated in various ways across different countries, after half a century, in an effort to restart operations.The theoretical feasibility based on inherited knowledge (particularly control and safety of nuclear reactions) is well understood. However, risks persist on the pathway towards actual plant operation. This report aims to envision the future to the extent possible based on current knowledge and insights.
