Electromigration is a current-driven mass transfer phenomenon. The purpose is to clarify the effect of electromigration on the material compatibility in a liquid Pb pool. The corrosion test of 304 austenitic steel was performed in liquid Pb pool under electric current flow. The theoretical model of electromigration indicated that electromigration will drive Pb atoms to migrate in the opposite direction of the current flow. The dissolution corrosion of 304 in the anode side was then promoted because the dissolved elements were driven out from the anode to the cathode in response to the electromigration of Pb atoms.
