The purpose of this study is to clarify the difference in surface effect between (p,p'x) and (d,d'x) reactions. We employ the semiclassical distorted wave model (SCDW) to describe the energy spectrum of the (p,p'x) and (d,d'x) reactions. SCDW has the property which describes the inclusive cross section as an incoherent integral of the contributions at individual collision points R. In this study, we use the property of SCDW to discuss quantitatively the extent to which the reaction occurs at the surface of the nucleus. This clarifies that the surface effect is more significant for the (d,d'x) reaction than for the (p,p'x) reaction.
