This study presents RPV lower head penetration failure test due to eutectic reaction ( ELSA-3 ) as part of the series of presentations on “Estimation of RPV damage and fuel debris relocation behavior in the PCV at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station”. In order to confirm the damage to the RPV lower head penetration and the discharge of molten material into the CRD housing in the presence of the metal debris at the bottom of the RPV lower head for Unit 2, the ELSA-3 test was conducted in which simulated metal debris was filled into a test body simulated the bottom of the RPV lower head, and the sample was heated and melted using the LEISAN test equipment owned by JAEA. As a result of the test, it was confirmed that the CRD stub tube and CRD housing melted due to eutectic reaction between the simulated metal debris and the lower structural material ( CRD housing, CRD stub tube ) at the RPV lower head penetration and the simulated metal debris discharged into the CRD housing, it was shown that damage could occur due to eutectic reaction between the RPV lower structural material and the simulated metal debris.
