Keywords:severe accident, MCCI, VULCANO VBS experiment, crust model, Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method

A new crust model for the Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method has been developed so that accumulation of numerical displacement of solidified particles (numerical creeping) by Particle Shifting (PS) is effectively eliminated. Qualitative validity of the new crust model has been confirmed through the test analyses of VULCANO VBS experiment, which simulated Molten Core-Concrete Interaction (MCCI) and extended at low induction heating power for a long period of time. The analyses results showed the continued concrete ablation even after formation of the metallic crust at the concrete wall boundary.
