Keywords:Shopping street, Guesthouse, Small accommodation, Revitalization, Cultural Exchange
This study focused on small guest-house-type accommodations (hereinafter referred to as “GHs”) located on shopping streets (hereinafter referred to as “SSs”). It was hypothesized that GHs contribute to the revitalization of SSs because of their function of connecting local residents and guests through events etc. The purpose of this study is to the influence of GHs on SSs using a questionnaire and hearing survey. The results revealed that GHs’ sense of belonging to the SSs and degree of cooperation with persons of concern of SSs tended to be greater at present than at the time of opening. GHs, whose purpose of operation is revitalization, mostly provide services such as local experiences to guests. In certain other GHs host events, as a result, contributed to mall activation of SSs by attracting a variety of consumers such residents.
