The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between the governmental reorganization plan and the castle district in seven of the main local cities based on early modern castle towns, where plans for governmental facilities and civic core districts were developed in and around the castle district.
　Firstly, the Ichidanchi Plan took advantage of the centrality of the castle district, whereas the Civic Core Plan took advantage of the historicity of the castle district. Secondly,in the Ichidanchi Plan facilities were planned in consideration of the spatial elements of the castle district, and in the Civic Core Plan facility plans were found to be linked to the regeneration of the castle district.
