Keywords:Place Attachment, Area Characteristics, Community Planning
In 2020, the Ookayama and Senzoku Area City Development Association conducted a questionnaire survey and asked local residents about their important places in the area. This study aimed to analyze the results of the survey and to clarify the characteristics of their important places and reasons. We have obtained the following findings. (1) There are three types of important places; the places that many residents throughout the city think important, the places that residents particularly in a smaller area think important, and the places that each resident personally thinks important. (2) The reasons why they value those places can be divided into 10 categories. The reasons capture the essence of the place, which should be an important factor in considering the conservation of the place. (3) Revealing the important places for residents and their relationship with those places creates the structure of the local area. The structure represents the community life and essence of the area, and could become a guideline for future city development.
