The purpose of this paper is to clarify the characteristics of green infrastructure in the middle and lower Arakawa River basin, located in Metropolitan Tokyo, and consider perspectives of water circulation planning based on the watershed analysis. There exist 144 small watersheds, and by analyzing the capacity of permeability of rain-fall, the amount of water storage, existence of springs and the quality of green spaces introduced by natural land use units, 12 types of watersheds have identified. Utilizing the theory of landscape ecology, matrix-corridor-core, metropolitan GI planning has proposed based on the above results. Therefore, it becomes possible to develop strategies for recovering healthy water circulation, considering the function of water circulation system of each watershed.
