[25] The Potential Significance of Artist-in-Residence Programs Today in terms of the Actual Involvement of Residents and its Development into Community Development Activities
Focusing on the Activities Outside the Artist-in-Residence Period in the "ARCUS Project" in Moriya City, Ibaraki Prefecture
Keywords:Artist in Residence, resident involvement, art activities, life history, potential benefits
The purpose of this study is to clarify the actual situation of residents' participation in AIR management and other community development activities by focusing on art activities conducted during the artist-in-residence (AIR) period outside of the artist's residency period, which has not been paid much attention in the past. The study revealed the following three points: 1) AIRs where artists stay for less than six months do not place much importance on resident-participatory art activities; 2) changes in the management structure and activity policies affect the programs offered to residents, which in turn affects their involvement; 3) AIR involvement is a trigger for involvement in other community development activities. 3) Cases of participation in community development activities other than AIR were identified as a result of involvement in AIR. Based on the above, the potential significance of AIR is discussed for the future promotion of AIR.
