In this study, a questionnaire survey on activity characteristics, Actual condition of evaluation , and evaluation awareness was conducted among municipalities involved in art projects as a basic research for the development of evaluation methods in art projects. A simple tabulation of the survey results revealed that the overall tendency of the local governments was that there was a gap between their awareness of the need for evaluation and the extent to which evaluation was actually conducted, and that they felt that the current evaluation was insufficient. In addition, we categorized the municipalities into three types (cross-sectional evaluation, activity improvement evaluation, and social/economic evaluation) using the viewpoints necessary for evaluation, and clarified the challenges and prospects for each type of evaluation through comparative analysis among the three types. Furthermore, a cross-sectional analysis suggested that the purpose of activities and the nature of the department in charge have an impact on the evaluation perspective of local governments, and The study also suggested that one of the challenges in evaluating art projects is the inability to adequately measure the impact of collaboration and the creation of local attractions.
