-Focusing on land ownership and perpetual leaseholds in Bluff settlement of Yokohama-
Keywords:Bluff, the Grate Kanto Earthquake, earthquake reconstruction, perpetual leasehold, Yokohama
This study clarifies the land ownership patterns and housing construction in Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, a former foreign settlement, during the Grate Kanto earthquake reconstruction period. At the time of the earthquake, land ownership and perpetual lease existed. During the reconstruction period, a part of the perpetual leasehold became city-owned land, and a part of it was resold to the private sector. On the other hand, some lands were sold as perpetual leases, while others were extinguished and became property rights. During the earthquake reconstruction period, many foreign residences were built in about half of the residential areas in Yamate-cho, regardless of the type of land ownership or who owned the land. Yamate-cho has once again been restored as a town where foreigners live.
