Keywords: compact city, opinions, policy recognition, city residents, self-confessed recognition
City residents’ recognition and agreement on compact city policies are essential for the realization of the compact city. However, the factors affecting recognition and agreement have yet to be identified. In this study, based on the original questionnaire survey, we analyzed the relationship between city residents’ recognition and opinion on compact city policies, and the influences of other individual attributes on the opinion. Our findings indicate that 1) the recognition of compact city policies affects the opinion on the policy, 2)very few city residents are completely free of misunderstandings about the content of a policy and are able to correctly recognize all of its effects, and 3) occupation, household composition, and urban typology were also factors affecting their opinion on the compact city policies.
