This paper examines how the segregation of suburban residential areas, called a New Town, occurred during the era of population decline. Our perspective is the industrial classification for which suburbanites work. New towns were developed during and after the high economic growth period. Most of the residents have commuted to the central urban area. However, there is a significant social shift to work within the suburb and to widen the variation of workstyles. Thus, this study analyzed the relationship between spatial and industrial characteristics. As a result of the analysis based on several statistical sources, we found that diversity is being encompassed in some parts of the city simultaneously with the segregation of the New Town.
