[64] Study on the Taipei City District Reconstruction (1912)
Keywords: Colony, Taiwan, Taipei, Shiku-Kaisei Urban Improvement
The Taipei City District Reconstruction (1912) is known for its creation of a central city area with a continuum of certain architectural styles. This study examines the factors that contributed to the success of the project based on an analysis of the entities involved, the project scheme, the relationship with existing building regulations, and the burdens borne by the major stakeholders in the reconstruction. On the institutional side, the Taipei City District Reconstruction was a civil contract between the Government-General of Taiwan, the Bank of Taiwan, the Taiwan Land and Building Corporation, and the roadside right-of-way holders. The environment at the dawn of the colonial period resulted in a financial scheme with little economic risk for each stakeholder.
