[138] Regional Characteristics Represented in the House Name Vocabulary
- Geospatial Analysis Based on the House Name Directories in Former Karakuwa Town

In this study, we quantitatively analyzed the distribution of more than 4600 house name words from geographical and social perspectives using geospatial data of house name vocabulary created from the house name directories in former Karakuwa Town, and explored what the house names represent. Our major findings are as follows: (1) Words that express a house or a branch family and words that express positional relationships are frequently and ubiquitously used, which express the community structure and the perception of positional relationships in former Karakuwa Town, (2) There are many house name words that reflect geographical conditions and human activities, and (3) It was suggested that the house name words also reflect social conditions, through the analysis of the house-name-word distribution across districts.
