Space design and arrangements and people’s activities are considered to be important elements in realizing walkable town. In addition, human facial expression could be also an important element of the townscape. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between people’s activity and facial expression, and to clarify the effects of facial expressions, activities and pedestrian traffic on the impression of the townscape. The results show that an activity of conversation tends to make him/her more happy facial expression than other activities, and gives an observer a lively and comfortable impression. A single person activity tends to make him/her sadder expression, and give an observer the impression of lifelessness. More pedestrians give an observer a lively impression, but does not give a cozy impression.
