The development of electric powertrain systems to maximise efficiency and increase electric range

The second generation of electric and plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles are currently being developed by the global vehicle OEMs. One of the main focuses of these new platforms will be to maximize the all-electric range (AER) from a specific amount of energy, otherwise known as the energy efficiency. This seminar outlines the approach used by HORIBA MIRA for the development of an energy efficient electric powertrain that can increase the AER of an electric vehicle by 20 - 30%. The advanced modelling and simulation tools that we use to optimize the system design are explained as well as the key techniques for improving energy efficiency.
