[P1-25] Geographical visualization of regions that succeeded and failed to attract tourists during the COVID-19 pandemic - A Case Study on Korea

*Chul Sohn1 (1. Gangneung-Wonju National University)

Keywords:Covid-19, Domestic Tourists, Visualization

The purpose of this study was to compare and geographically visualize the number of tourists by Up-Myun-Dong, a basic administrative district in Korea, in 2019, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the number of tourists by Up-Myun-Dong from 2020 to 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic. The estimate of the number of domestic tourists used in this study is based on the mobile phone usage data of KT subscribers, a representative mobile communication service provider in Korea. This study was conducted with the aim of identifying areas that successfully attracted tourists during the pandemic and seeking ways to grow the local tourism industry if similar situations are reproduced.
