The Kyoto University Museum collection contains approximately 20,000 mineral specimens. The mineral collection derived from the engineering faculty is especially outstanding in the quality, quantity, and variety, which are named as “Hiki Mineral Collection” in Professor Tadasu Hiki's honor. Prof. Hiki made a collection room in the Mining and Metallurgical department, the Kyoto Imperial University, and collected more than 10,000 mineral and ore specimens between 1898-1926. The collection contributed to the development of study and education at the dawn of mineralogy of Japan.
