[S1P-02] In-situ observation of growth behaviors of Fe and Pt particles in a silicate melt
Keywords:nanoparticle, coalescence, undercooling, volcanic glass
To investigate the crystallization processes of sub-micron sized crystals in silicate melts, high-temperature in-situ observation was attempted under a FE-SEM at an acceleration voltage of 10–15kV under high vacuum (9.6×10-5 Pa) and low vacuum (60Pa). The Fe and Pt particles moved, coalesced and recrystallized under high vacuum especially at 950°C. The Fe and Pt particles larger than 200 and 100 nm in width, respectively, had facets. The coalescence of Fe and Pt particles was observed from 30 and 20 nm in diameter to 370 and 590 nm in width, respectively.
