Keywords:katoite, structure refinement, Tadano

The crystal structure refinement of S-bearing katoite from Tadano, Fukushima was carried out to characterize the crystal-chemical features of sulphur in the garnet structure. Residual electron density, which is near to the Y site, was detected on a difference-Fourier map. Its position can be assumed to correspond to the position of S. The final refinement based on a model containing the S site (32e) was refined to a R1 of 3.5 % and the atomic coordinate of the S site is x = 0.0285(16), y = 0.0285(16) and z = 0.0285(16).
