[R2-09] Crystallization of Cristobalite and Tridymite in a CaO-MgO-Li2O-V2O5 Flux System: Isothermal Heating Experiments of Amorphous Silica

Keywords:synthesis, flux, amorphous silica, tridymite, cristobalite

At the 2019 annual meeting, we reported tridymite and cristobalite crystalize from amorphous silica in the flux system CaO-MgO-Li2O-V2O5. The detailed conditions, however, were not clear. In this study, we have focused the growth condition of cristobalite and tridymite for using amorphous silica. At temperatures from 900 to 800ºC, cristobalite crystallizes preferentially and tridymite subsequently. Tridymite, however, is dominant for prolonged heating and/or at higher temperature.
