The Yukinoura serpentinite mélange in the Nishisonogi metamorphic rock has been revealed to have the nature of UHP metamorphism by the occurrence of microdiamond. This study examines the zoning in garnets from these rocks to clarify the metamorphic conditions.
Garnet in metapelites has a composition of almandine – grossular with minor spessartine component and shows a zoning with a rapid increase of grossular component up to 40 mol % in the rim. Thus, the zoning in garnets show a pressure increment during the growth of the garnets.
