Candida albicans (C. albicans) is a commensal fungus in humans that causes oral candidiasis and disseminated candidiasis in immunocompromised hosts. Although analysis of a murine model of systemic candidiasis has revealed important host defense mechanisms in disseminated candidiasis, the detailed control mechanisms for oral candidiasis are poorly understood. Therefore, we attempted to analyze the immune cells responsible for the effector functions against C. albicans and their regulatory mechanisms in a murine model of oral candidiasis (without immunosuppressive agents) by using gene-deficient mice for the signaling molecule downstream of immunoreceptor. In this presentation, we would like to discuss the role of immunoreceptor signaling during C. albicans oral infection.
