It is very important for designing low-rise and middle-rise buildings to evaluate the design wind loads both on the main wind force resisting systems and cladding/components accurately. For this purpose, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of natural winds near the ground surface, which are influenced by surface roughness such as buildings and terrains. The objective of the present paper is to develop an evaluation method of wind turbulence near the ground surface by using a building information database. The relationship between the wind turbulence and surface roughness parameters is investigated based on the field measurements of wind speeds at many locations, the building information database, and the wind tunnel test.
