[49] Simplified Performance Evaluation Tests of Full-Scale Viscoelastic Damper on Wind-Induced Response and Proposal of Analytical Model
Keywords:Viscoelastic Damper, Wind-induced Response, Analytical Model, Simplified Evaluation Method, Heat Transfer
Dry cable galloping is one of hazardous phenomena that could be observed in long circular cylindrical members such as stay cables. Considerable researches have been conducted to clarify its characteristics and possible cause, but there still seem to be some uncertainties about its mechanism. This experiment was a trial to reproduce the phenomenon with relatively simple setup in a medium size wind tunnel, and the responses were measured also with increased damping and with different number of helical strips. Using a relatively short circular cylinder model with the inclination angle of 30 degrees supported as a pendulum, responses were observed and their variation was not large among different measurements. Wind-induced responses were observed at two wind speed ranges and they showed somewhat different characteristics. The response in lower wind speed range was considered to occur at lower than the critical Reynolds number.
