This paper describes aerodynamic stability of the steel box girder for a steel-concrete composite cable-stayed bridge with 475m main span length. The aerodynamic devices such as fairing and flap are employed on steel box girders to suppress aerodynamic vibrations like vortex-induced vibration, galloping and flutter. However, these devices are expensive and there is a problem in maintenance. And we should take account of not only aerodynamic stability but also the installation and maintenance cost. So, we considered some compact aerodynamic devices that based on SIM developed by Y.KUBO. From the spring supported model wind tunnel tests, vortex-induced vibration occurred in basic cross-section form. Aerodynamic stability of the cross-section with bottom corner-cut, horizontal plate (by extending steel deck plate) and vertical plate (by substituting wheel guard) was verified.
