The installation of wind power generation has been promoted in recent years. In Japan, wind turbines are often installed on the complex terrain due to the lack of relatively flat location for wind turbine’s installation. Accordingly, fatigue damage to wind turbines on the complex terrain is often reported. Therefore, the prediction of local turbulent characteristics is important in order to find the location suitable for wind turbine installation. This study performed Large Eddy Simulation (LES) to estimate the local turbulent characteristics on the actual complex terrain. Fatigue damage to wind turbine is calculated by using wind velocity time series data obtained from LES. From these results, the characteristics of terrain involving high risk of the fatigue damage to wind turbine are estimated. In addition, it was found that fatigue damage evaluation employing LES is useful by comparing the results of fatigue damage calculation between LES and inflow turbulence generator.
