Variation of breakage characteristics of glass with different missiles is clarified experimentally. Gravel, nut and steel ball were selected as impacting missiles to the standard specimen of 5mm thick, 300mm x 300mm square float glass. Test results showed that the impact by steel ball was the largest. The impact by gravel varied widely. The effect of impact position and the material of the board was also examined by using real sound insulating boards. Impact test with gravel and steel ball as missiles to wired glass, chemical tempered glass and tempered glass was also carried out. The impact by steel ball was larger than that by gravel. Chemical tempered glass stood the largest impact speed with steel ball. Wired glass and chemical tempered glass stood the largest impact speed with gravel.
