Optimum selection of various physics processes and functions in the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) is investigated to account for the wind resource in coastal areas alongside of the Sea of Japan with the onsite measurement. Following conclusions are obtained. 1) The selection of PBL scheme or the Four Dimensional Data Assimilation option shows larger impacts on the prediction compared to micro physics scheme. 2) The effect of PBL is investigated further by comparing with the one-year observation. The YSU scheme that predicts strong seasonal wind during winter well shows the lowest mean error among considered schemes. 3) The impact of sea surface temperature (SST) dataset is also investigated. The prediction using FRA-JCOPE2 which has cold bias in the Sea of Japan tend to be underestimated against observation compared with NCEP RTG-SST-HR. 4) The sensitivity analyses of the reanalyses (FNL, CFSR and Interim) shows little impact on the predictions of wind direction.
