Keywords:Offshore Wind Turbine Tower, Bottom-mounted, Field Measurement, Wind Load, Gust Effect Factor
At 15:06 JST (Japan Standard Time) on February 13, 2015, a wind storm occurred in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan with F0 (JEF0) scale. The damage covered a closed area and caused by a dust column. The tangential velocity of the vortex was estimated to approximately 20 m/s based on the damaged panel. Cumulonimbus clouds and arc cloud of gust front were observed in the band shaped echo over the wind shear line from 14 JST. The Doppler velocity pattern indicated a vortex signatures, which had a vorticity on the order of 10-2 s-1. The damage was caused by the vortex (gustnado), which formed in the gust front with the parent cloud (arc) and the parent vortex.
