A giant |ΔSM| of 22.0 J/kgK is obtained at 21 K by Gd substitution and table-like |ΔSM| of 16.8 J/kgK for the Ho0.7Gd0.3Ni2 alloy makes it suitable for magnetic frigeration with an Ericsson cycle.
