1850～1925年頃の西欧と日本における鉄鋼組織学の変遷をトレースし、研究や技術の発展に必要な条件を解析する。それを基に現在の重要課題SDGsが鉄鋼材料に求めている状況を確認し、今後の方向を考察する。
