It is widely known that growth of grapes for wine is affected by climate. Some suggest that bedrock geology and soils also affect the characteristics of grapes and wine. A recent book by an American journalist focuses on the effects of geology and soils on grapes and wine, and I supervised its Japanese translation. This presentation introduces some hypotheses to relate wine with geology and soils.
