[H-CG21] Sediment gravity flows: generation, morphodynamics and deposits

Thu. Jun 3, 2021 10:45 AM - 12:15 PM Ch.14 (Zoom Room 14)

convener:Hajime Naruse(Department of Geology and Mineralogy, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University), Miwa Yokokawa(Osaka Institute of Technology), Michael Robert Dorrell(University of Hull), Chairperson:Hajime Naruse(Department of Geology and Mineralogy, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University), Robert Michael Dorrell(University of Hull), Miwa Yokokawa(Osaka Institute of Technology)

We invite research based on all kinds of approaches to understand morphodynamics of sediment gravity flows including turbidity currents and debris flows. Multidisciplinary studies such as field observation, physical and numerical experiments, mathematical analysis, and studies from rock records are welcomed. Recent progress in research methodologies has greatly changed our understanding of dynamics of turbidity currents and relevant flows, submarine geomorphology and stratigraphy. The integration of such new knowledge on turbidity currents is important not only for scientific interests but also for practical application such as risk assessment of natural hazards, and exploration of resources. We anticipate interdisciplinary discussions about various aspects of turbidity currents, debris flows and other types of sediment gravity flows.
