[M-IS15] Tsunami deposit: research progress after the 2011 Tohoku-oki earthquake and prospects

Sun. Jun 6, 2021 5:15 PM - 6:30 PM Ch.19

convener:Masaki Yamada(Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, Shinshu University), Takashi Ishizawa(International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University), Masashi Watanabe(Chuo University), Koichiro Tanigawa(Geological Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology)

The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake and associated tsunami have an influence on the development of tsunami deposit research. After the tsunami, a lot of findings have been reported in various research fields. However, it has been still uncertain how to use the tsunami deposit to estimate its size and source and the risk assessment. As it commemorates the 10th anniversary of the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake, we would like to review research progress over the past decade and share in the vision of future researches. In this session, we welcome research from all aspects of sedimentary records of modern and paleo tsunamis and numerical and experimental modeling studies for risk assessment. We also include research on other event deposits, such as river floodings and storm surges, that they are considered important for identification of tsunami deposits in geological strata.
