In the Himalayan region, the Indian and Eurasian plates collide, and the Indian lithosphere underthrusts beneath the Eurasian plate from the Main Frontal Thrust with a convergence rate of approximately 18 mm/year. This has historically caused large earthquakes such as the 1934 Bihar-Nepal earthquake, and seismic hazards in the region remain high. On April 25, 2015 (UTC), the Mw 7.8 Gorkha earthquake occurred along the plate boundary, and this affected the Main Frontal Thrust increasing the stress in possible source areas of future large earthquakes. Therefore, even after the Gorkha earthquake, studies on active tectonics and seismic hazards are still necessary in the Himalayan region. All kinds of studies on them are welcome for this session.
