[ACC25-06] The area fluctuations of short-lived glacial lake in the Teskey Range, Central Asia

In the northern part of the Tien Shan Mountains (Kyrgyz Republic), many short-lived glacial lakes that appear and disappear within a few months are confirmed. Large-scale floods from short-lived glacial lakes have caused serious damages to the surrounding area. In the Tong district of the Teskey Range of this study area, five large-scale debris flows related to short-lived lakes have been reported since 2006 (Narama et. al., 2018; Daiyrov et al., 2020). Short-lived glacial lakes are formed by the closure of ice tunnels inside of moraine-complex, due to the freezing of stored water or deposition of ice-debris. In addition, short-lived glacial lakes appeared due to the influx of glacial meltwater (Daiyrov et al., 2020). However, there are no research reports that area changes of short-lived glacial lakes are related to the balance between inflows and outflows. In this study, we investigated the area changes of short-lived glacial lakes in the Tong district using satellite images (PlanetScope) in June-September 2017-2020.
