[ACG31-P01] The drone techniques for earth science research operated by high school students and applying for efficiency environmental survey education
Keywords:Drone techniques, earth science education, Inquiry learning, environmental education
It is not easy for not only researchers but also ordinary people to grasp the shape of the earth from a broad perspective, as represented by ancient Greece Eratosthenes's view of the size of the earth by expanding its imagination. That is even more so for young people who will be responsible for science in the future. At the end of the 20th century, small unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) became cheaper for the public and it became easier that their interest in earth science and its research methods could vivid.
I will introduce how to expand the possibilities in school education by using drone researches for teens, and what we have been able to practice by utilizing the recent world situation of keeping social distance.
(1) The drone techniques in the high school activities
Taking pictures and videos in order to train control skill.
Learning with drone pilot certification for level 3 (DPJ) and safety education for operating apparatus. For safe operation, needed to operate both by visually and out of sight at the radio controller. And make it more safety, also needed face-to-face flight training.
(2) Tracking of inorganic components in the seashore
We have monitored long-term transition and coastal distance tendency for saline components in Matsushima bay.
I will show the flying back water sampling system constructed by students.
(3) Statistical processing of ground-soil conditions using drone imaging and aerial photography software
We are trying to measure the vegetation and soil distribution from aerial images. We hope to statistically process soil heat reflexes and green coverage by using drone-related applications (now planning), and to consider the correlation between soil conditions and atmospheric conditions in the future.
