[ACG39-P06] Evaluation of the impact of Arctic sea ice changes on the atmospheric circulation in the winter of 2020/2021

*Kazuaki Nishii1 (1.Graduate School of Bioresources, Mie University)

Keywords:Arctic sea ice, blocking, cold surge

In 2020/2021 winter, northern Japan suffered from cold temperature and heavy snowfall in association with cold surges from Eurasia continent. This cold surges accompanied atmospheric blocking flow over Northern Eurasia. Previous studies pointed out that the sea ice decline in Barents-Kara Sea may develop such atmospheric blocking. Based on a set of atmospheric general circulation model experiments, we will evaluate the sea ice impact of the sea ice changes on the atmospheric blocking flow and succeeding cold surges in the winter of 2020/21.
