[HCG29-P03] Identification of Nostoc sp. HK-01 proteins found in dry environment

Nostoc sp. HK-01, one of terrestrial cyanobacterium, could be used for bio-chemical circulation in a closed ecosystem including space. Furthermore, its high tolerance to desiccation stress has ability of usefulness as a food.
In this study, genes of Nostoc sp. HK-01 induced by desiccation stress were investigated.
Nostoc sp. HK-01 cells were dehydrated slowly. Proteins extracted from dehydrated HK-01 cells and wet HK-01 cells applied to SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. In comparison with the wet cell proteins, significant abundance changes of some proteins in the dehydrated cells were detected. Further, expression analyses of genes encoding these proteins were performed by real-time PCR. The research will be expected to contribute to an effective utilization of food resources.
